Yang Style Short Form

 

1.Preparation

Also known as wu chi or hun-yuan(undifferentiated unity).

Feet together at a 45° angle.

 

2.Beginning

 

3.Left Ward Off

Form aright hand ball as you turn right and shift, adjust left foot and shift weight onto left leg as you ward off left, right toecomes in.

 

4.Right Ward Off

 Turn right,forming a left hand ball.

 Right foot and right hand move together.

 

5.Roll Back

Remember to bring in left toe as you gather.

 

6.Press

 

7.Push

[Postures3 through 7 are collectively known as “Grasping the Sparrow’s Tail”.]

 

8.Single Whip

As you turn left hand palm out, right foot turns in.

 

9.Lifting Hands

Right foot comes in as you gather the hands in, to Play Pipa Right.

Pull down.

 

10.Shoulder Strike

Remember tostep out diagonally. Don’t lean!

  

11.White Crane Spreads Wings

Toedown, heel up.

 

 12.Brush Knee - Left

Toe doesn’t come in yet…instead lift knee (knee strike) then replace foot at correct angle.

 

13.Play Pipa - Left

Left handrises straight up to shoulder height, palm down.

Both palms are down, as palms turn inward then foot comes in together with hands.

Toe up, heel down.

 

14.Repeat Brush Knee - Left

 

15.Step Up, Block Down and Intercept

Remember to keep a space (approx. 4 fingers)between heels when lowering right foot.

 

16.Parry and Punch

Don’t extend right arm too far.

[Postures 15 and 16 are collectively called Chin Pu, Pan Nan Ch’ui.]

 

17.Withdraw and Push

Body turns in direction of dan tien.

 

18.Cross Hands

Turn left foot with dan tien.

Bringing hands upward lifts right leg into shoulder’s width position.

  

19.Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain

As rightfoot touches the ground, right hand brushes knee then turns palm up.

Shift weight as right hand comes up, palm facing you.

 

20.Grasp Sparrow’s Tail

Gather, rollback etc…

In the direction of the back corner/diagonal.

Shift weight back and turn-step left.

 

21.Fist Under Elbow

Toe down, heel up.

 

22.Step Back to Repulse Monkey – Right

Keep feet facing straight forward as possible.

 

23.Step Back to Repulse Monkey – Left

 

24.Step Back to Repulse Monkey – Right

Turn left,hands circling to form a left hand ball over your left knee.

Turn right, lifting right foot as you turn.

 

25.Diagonal Flying

Step out diagonally.

 

26.Wave Hands in Clouds

4 times to the left then “rolling ball” forward (so 3 complete, 4th is only to the left side).

29.Golden Pheasant Stands on One Leg – Right

 

30.Golden Pheasant Stands on One Leg – Left

 

31.Separate Right Foot

Gather right, step back with left foot, roll back, release, cross hands, hands turn down as knee comes up, and separate foot (at an angle)…this is an attack to your opponent’s knee.

 

32.Separate Left Foot

 

33.Turn Around and Heel Kick - Left

 

34.Brush Knee - Left

Skew step left.

 

35.Brush Knee – Right

 

36.Step Forward and Punch (Low)

 

37.Grasp Sparrow’s Tail

 

Shift back, skew step left and then step forward into right ward off from #36 and continue as per normal.

 

38.Single Whip

 

39.Fair Lady Weaves the Shuttle (Four Corners)

 

  1. Gather right, roll back and shift (in direction right foot is pointing), adjust right foot and step.
  2. “Double Ward Off” with the arms as you turn.
  3. Bring right foot in across left foot, at an angle.
  4. After 4th corner, shift weight completely onto right leg as you turn slightly left, forming a left hand ball over right knee. Adjust left foot and shift into Left     Ward Off.

42.Snake Creeps Down

 

43.Step Up to Seven Stars of The Dipper

 

Toe down, heel up.

 

44.Step Back to Ride the Tiger

Form a left ward off as right hand releases down and gathers up.

Toe down, heel up.

 

45.Turn to Sweep Lotus with the Leg

Arms gradually come up to shoulders height as you rotate.

 

46.Bend the Bow to Shoot the Tiger

 

47.Step Up, Block Down and Intercept

 

48.Parry and Punch

 

49.Withdraw and Push

 

50.Cross Hands

 

51.Conclusion / Close
